Hey there, if you don’t know me already let me introduce myself and show you a peek into my world as a resin artist and how Pretty Lane Resins came to be in 2020.
I am a mother of two amazing boys (7 & 3 years old), wife to a FIFO hubby and hairstylist. I have three dogs, drink coffee like it’s going out of style and have over 20 tattoos.
I was diagnosed with depression and severe anxiety in 2014 and more recently with adjustment disorder (anxiety’s side piece) so having a “normal” job has always been difficult. More recently I was diagnosed with ADHD and this has explained a lot and allows me to be kinder to myself when it comes to working and running a business. It does mean sometimes I won’t reply to an email straight away or my deadlines blow out by a couple of weeks but my brain just won’t function sometimes and I’ve come to realise that’s okay. Sometimes running a business by myself can be very overwhelming but having Pretty Lane as a creative outlet has been like another form of therapy. I’m lucky enough to have an incredible support system and beautiful clients that have always been very understanding. Being able to spend half of my day lost in a studio surrounded by flowers and art is incredibly calming and I often lose track of time with my head in a design.
After being in the wedding industry as a hair and makeup artist for over 5 years, I realised that there was a huge gap in the market when it came to bouquet preservation. I would see so many incredible bouquets come through the door and always found myself asking the bride what she intended to do with it at the end of the day. If you’ve ever been married, you know the money, time and research that can go into finding the perfect florist to create your vision. One day scrolling through TikTok, I found myself lost in the world of resin and flower preservation. I briefly discussed the idea with my family and once my beauty business was closed due to COVID-19 (the first time), I decided it was time to take it more seriously.
I began casting already dried flowers bought off Etsy, Amazon and eBay and discovered that resin was a temperamental and expensive medium but I was hooked. My kitchen table became my studio for six months, I completed my first market and I would work into the early hours of the morning after my boys had gone to bed. Once I received and cast my first bouquet, Pretty Lane started to take off and I now work out of a small studio in my parents granny flat with plans to open a shop front/studio in the next couple of years.
My husband and I have spent thousands of dollars testing to find the perfect resin, drying medium, molds, and flower wholesalers. Pretty Lane has begun to take over my world and it’s amazing to be a part of preserving someone’s memories.
Thankyou for supporting my business baby, I’m so lucky to have found something I truely love and can share with so many people.
